We now have enough wood for 2026 and are now only accepting pallets.
Thank you
We are often asked at this time of year if we can use spare wood on our bonfire, both from residents and businesses.
Here's our FAQ:
What wood can we take?
Plain wood! Nails are acceptable - we pull them out of the sand-covered bonfire site the next day with big magnets.
What wood can we NOT take?
Treated wood. Chipboard. Most domestic wood is treated with things like stains and varnish. Most garden furniture is treated to prevent rotting in the rain. We do not burn those types of wood to save the fumes.
What wood is most of the bonfire made of?
Shipping pallets.
Can we store the donated wood?
Sadly we have no such storage facilities. In our dreams, we will accrue funds to buy some land for this and other purposes, eventually.
Where & when should the wood be dropped off?
On Friday 16th October 2026, any time from 7am, to the beach by the West end of Pelham Place Car Park nearest the bonfire on the map below.
Can we collect?
Only maybe. We have limited transport facilities, and hundreds of things to run around the place that day.
Many thanks! Bonfire Captains Nick & Steve bonfire@hbbs.info
