Really just a hello and welcome. Just quite what does the president do? Well I see myself as a kind of 'elder statesman'. I keep an eye on things and if it looks like people are wandering too far from the traditional roots of bonfire or doing something to jeopardise its future I say so. It's also usually my job to keep the society in order and looking good when we are on the streets. Otherwise I keep out of the way. Its also my job to be the official face of Bonfire when meeting dignitaries such as the mayor at official functions. I probably know more about the history too and often represent the society giving talks on Bonfire. Theoretically if the society cannot elect officers it would be my job to keep it going until such a time as it is able to find some.
